Sri Annapoorneshwari is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati; she is regarded as a goddess of food. Annapoorna is a Sanskrit word that means a provider of food and nourishment. Anna means food and purna mean full. She is a popular deity in the Hindu religion and is praised by many names, such as Annada (donor of food), Vishwashakti (world power), Vishwamata (mother of the world), Bhuvneshwari (goddess of earth) and Renu (goddess of Atom). The ritual of Annapurna puja is mainly performed by women. Women do fasting and recite Annapurna Devi Stotram and Sri Annapoorneshwari Ji Ki Aarti that starts by words- Barambaar pranam, Maiya barambaar pranam.

About Annapoorneshwari Ji

Annapoorneshwari is one of the many forms of Maa Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva. There is a mountain in the Himalayas named after her. A temple dedicated to Devi called Annapurna Devi Mandir is located in Varanasi. People pray to the goddess to bless them with health and prosperity.

Women perform rituals to seek the blessing of Devi Maa for their better-married life and children’s health and growth. Sri Annapoorneshwari is a symbol of food and nourishment in terms of its goodness. She is also worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri Puja in Chaitra month as per the Hindu calendar.

Annapoorneshwari Ji History and Significance

It is said that when Annapoorneshwari Ji came to Kasi (Varanasi) from Kailash, Lord Shiva was not able to live without Parvati and food. The lord Shiva then realized that Goddess Parvati was the source of food and nourishment. He visited Varanasi and prayed to the goddess for some food. Food is, therefore, considered sacred in Hinduism. Before any meal, people pray to Maa Annapoorneshwari to awaken spiritual knowledge, attainment, freedom and prosperity in them. She is believed to look after her devotees like her children. Devotees are blessed with health and prosperity by worshipping Sri Annapoorneshwari.
