The Deepawali festival is celebrated every year on the new moon day of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month in the Hindu Calendar. This five-day long Deepawali festival starts from Dhanteras, followed by Narak Chaturdashi, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and at last Bhai Dooj. On the day of the Diwali festival, in the evening, Maa Lakshami – the Goddess of wealth is worshipped and Mahalakshmi Ji Ki Aarti is recited by the devotees. The aarti begins with words- Om Jai Lakshmi Mata, Maiya Jai Lakshmi Mata. It is believed that the goddess Mahalakshami has the power to change the fate of the people by entering their house.

About Maa Laxmi or Mahalakshmi Ji

The origin of Lakshmi Mata dates back to Samudra Manthan; she was one of fourteen types of gems to be divided between Devas and Asuras, but she was gifted to Lord Vishnu. The goddess, who is associated with gold, is a consort of Lord Vishnu. Goddess Lakshmi resides in homes of those who are noble, generous, sincere, have a divine mind, do not hurt anyone, do not quarrel at home and earn money through honest means. Good deeds in life can bring good fortune.
