How To Do Diwali Lakshmi Pooja At Home

Step 1: Clean and purify your home

To begin with, indulge in cleaning and disinfecting processes in your home. This will remove all the dirt, dust, and unseen bacteria, making the space sparkling clean. Give emphasis on the puja area and clean it twice. You can use a good disinfectant and cleaner for this purpose.

Step 2: Establish the puja platform

Then it’s time to establish the puja platform in your home. If you already have such a structure, then you must have disinfected and cleaned it. Else, you need to make one for performing Lakshmi puja. Cover the area with a red cloth and place some grains in its middle.

Step 3: Place a Kalash

Take a silver or bronze pot and put it in the middle of the grains. Fill it with nearly 75% of water and add one number of betel nut (supari), marigold flower, coin, and a few rice grains. Then, take 5 mango leaves and keep them on the Kalash.

Step 4: Keep the idols

On the platform, keep the idols of Maa Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and other gods, as per your wish. Lord Ganesha’s idol must be on the right side of Kalash, whereas the idol of Goddess Lakshmi is in the middle. The Lord Ganesha idol must be in the southwest direction.

Step 5: Keep wealth items

Since Maa Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, it is traditional to keep all your wealth items such as account books, coins, fixed deposits, etc in front of the idol of the Goddess. It is believed to augment one’s wealth.

Step 6: Apply the Tilak

Now it’s time to apply the tilak to the idols of Maa Lakshmi, and Lord Ganesha. Also, apply the tilak to the Kalash. The tilak must be made of Kesar and rice. Along with this, lighten the diyas on the puja platform.

Step 7: Offer Flowers

Tuberose, Mogra, and rose are a few of the favorite flowers of Goddess Lakshmi. On the eve of Diwali, offer these roses while praying to the goddess. Red marigold or genda flower should be offered to Lord Ganesha.

Step 8: Recite Mantras and Shlokas

Keep a few flowers in your palm and make them in prayer mode. Recite the Diwali Mantras in your mind. Diwali Shlokas can be recited aloud. Upon completion of the prayer, offer those flowers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.

Step 9: Offer Water

Bathe the idol of Lakshmi Ji with panchamrita and then with water. If required, clean the idol with water again. Here, use Ganga Jal, if possible. Then dry the idol with a clean cloth and put it back in its place.

Step 10: Garland of Flowers

After this part, it’s time to offer turmeric (Haldi), kumkum, and rice to the Lakshmi Maa idol. Then take the garland and put it around the neck of the idol. Then, light incense sticks (Agarbatti) and dhoop on the puja platform. Make sure to use a stand for this purpose.

Step 11: Offer Fruits

Now the time is to offer fruits and sweets to Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Along with this, also offer coconut, paan leaf, and supari to the goddess. This will make the goddess happy. You can also put a few flowers and coins in front of the idol.

Step 12: Perform the aarti

Towards the end of Lakshmi Pooja on Diwali, you should recite the aarti of Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Make sure to recite it with a pure heart as it will make God happy and they will bless you with good health and wealth. For aarti, place the diya in the prayer thali.
