Significance of Diwali Or Deepavali
To celebrate the popular festival of Diwali, people use diyas and candles to light up their homes, shops, and offices. Nowadays, electric LED lights are also used for lighting purposes. During the eve of Diwali, Lord Ganesha is worshipped along with Goddess Lakshmi. On the one hand, Lord Ganesha blesses his devotees with welfare and prosperity, on the other hand, Goddess Lakshmi blesses her devotees with wisdom and wealth. The significance of Diwali or Deepawali is related to the Hindu literature Ramayana, according to which the day of Diwali marks the return of Lord Rama after spending 14 years in exile.
5 Days of Diwali Or Deepavali Celebration
In India, the festival of Diwali or Deepavali is celebrated for 5 consecutive days. This is undoubtedly the most popular Indian festival, which is also synonymous with the celebration of life. In some parts of India, the day of Diwali signifies the beginning of the new year. The 5 days of Diwali or Deepavali are mentioned below.
Day 1: Dhanteras: Dwadashi
On this day, It is a ritual to purchase a new item that can be anything, however, as per tradition the purchase of gold or silver items is preferred. During the first day of Diwali, people throng the shopping complexes and local markets to buy something new for themselves or their house.
Day 2: Choti Diwali: Trayodashi
This day of the Diwali festival is reserved for cleaning and decoration. Shops, houses, businesses, shopping malls, complexes are cleaned & decorated. Most of the people chose to put up string lights and create rangoli designs to mark their celebration of this festival.
Day 3: Diwali and Lakshmi Puja: Amavasya
This is the most important day of the five days Diwali celebration. This is the day of the New Moon and Lakshmi puja and Ganesh puja are conducted on this day.
Day4: Bhai Duj: Dwitiya
This day is reserved for the love between brothers and sisters. A small ceremony is performed where the sisters receive gifts from their brothers.

On the day of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped. It is believed that on this day, the Goddess Lakshmi was born during the Samudra Manthan.
