SUMMARY: A Christmas Cake is a symbol at Christmas, also called a fruitcake. It contains dried fruit, raisins, currants, cherries etc.. With a heavy cover of icing. It is a tradition to bake a Christmas cake, and send them over to family and friends before the big festive day. Making and consumption of Christmas cake is a very old English tradition, which came into existence as plum porridge. On the eve of Christmas, people always ate the porridge after one complete day of fasting. After a quick time, they started adding spices, honey, and dried fruits to the porridge mixture. This took another form and was called Christmas pudding. However, in the 16th century, the original recipe was altered by the removal of oatmeal and the addition of wheat flour, eggs, and butter. Here, exotic eastern spices were used that were brought by the Wise Men. This final cake was called “Christmas Cake”. Nowadays, these festive cakes are made in different methods, however, all of them are variations of the classical fruitcake. The Christmas Cakes are available in various options such as light or dark, dry or moist, heavy or spongy, etc. Further, these types of cakes are made in assorted shapes with the add-ons of glazing, frosting, and a dusting of sugar; plain cakes are also present in the market. Most people prefer to make their own Christmas cake in their homes. But, a few do not have the time or patience for this. In this case, they can visit a nearby store to purchase the readymade Christmas cakes. Apart, a few online websites also deliver the Christmas cake to your doorstep.
